Flint Hills Lanes opened its doors to the community in a new way Saturday.
The business hosted Bowling for Businesses, a community activity that also served as a fundraiser for several participating businesses and the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
Co-organizers Matt Johnson and Josh Young say they spent about 120 hours developing the event from concept stage to the final activity that included five different bowling times, a raffle, T-shirt sales and food trucks. Young, a graphic designer, says it made sense to hold an event helping fellow business owners through tough times.
Johnson, a realtor, says other fundraisers or community events may be coming this year for the same purpose. He also says it was important to support the work of the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
Totals are currently pending but should be announced by early in the week. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds go to the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund. Cash prizes were also awarded to the top team in each time slot. Remaining proceeds go to local businesses needing help.
